When to Consider Breast Surgery Revision
There are many reasons to consider a breast revision surgery or “redo” procedure. Dr. Campanile will take the time to review your case individually. Some of the most common reasons why patients seek breast revision surgery with Dr. Campanile include capsular contracture, implant deflation or rupture, asymmetry, poorly positioned implants from another surgeon and changes in appearance or preferences over time.
Capsular Contracture
One of the most common situations that leads to revision of an initial breast augmentation is capsular contracture, which is the formation of scar tissue that constricts the breast implant. Capsular contracture can create an unflattering appearance and may even feel uncomfortable or painful. Your Breast Revision Procedure

Breast Revision Recovery
Recovery should be very similar to what you experienced after your initial surgery, although many women find that it is somewhat shorter. For the most part, you should be able to resume your normal routine in about a week, although exercise and other vigorous activities will need to wait until you’re more fully healed.
Feeling tired and sore the first few days is perfectly normal. Although many patients feel discouraged by this, the best thing to do is just rest and give your body the time and space it needs to heal.
- Expect your breasts to feel tender and look swollen at first.
- You may have to wear a special compression bra to aid healing.
- A normal daily routine can often be resumed within several days.
- Vigorous activities will have to stay on hold until Dr. Campanile gives the all-clear.

Your Breast Revision Results
While some changes will be visible immediately after your breast revision surgery, it’s important to remember that your final results will take time to fully develop. Right after surgery, you can expect some swelling, bruising and mild discomfort, which can temporarily affect the appearance of your breasts.
Most swelling begins to subside within the first few weeks, and you’ll start to see your results taking shape during this time. However, it can take around 3 to 6 months for your breast implants to fully settle into their new position and for scars to begin fading. Scars should continue to fade and gradually improve over the next 12 to 18 months, often becoming softer and less visible.
