Rising Demand for BOTOX® Encourages Some to Turn to a Life of Crime
In a story that shows the truth is stranger than fiction, Miami’s NBC6 reports a thief wearing a Santa Claus hat stole $20,000 worth of BOTOX® from a popular South Florida plastic surgery center. Surveillance footage captured the 2:30 a.m. break-in and shows the man ransacking medical supplies, chemicals and BOTOX® from a medical spa in the early morning hours of January 26th, 2016. There is a large black market for BOTOX® in Miami, where it’s likely some of the loot is headed. Police are investigating the burglary.
BOTOX® Can Make Dermal Fillers Last Longer
Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, are popular injectable treatments for lines and wrinkles that are temporary, and must be repeated every several months.* Once injected, dermal fillers gradually break down fairly quickly due to their composition and from muscle contraction in the treatment site. Recent experiments demonstrate how BOTOX® can increase the longevity of hyaluronic acid fillers, allowing men and women who enjoy both treatments more time between touch-ups.* Adding BOTOX® into HA fillers temporarily halts the muscle contractions in the targeted areas, which prolongs the life and efficacy of dermal fillers.*
BOTOX® May Prevent Irregular Heartbeat after Bypass Surgery
Researchers believe they’ve found yet another useful side effect of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Atrial fibrillation is the medical term for an irregular heartbeat. People with AF may have a heart that beats too quickly or too slowly, which can lead to life-threatening complications. Approximately one third of all people who’ve had bypass surgery will develop atrial fibrillation. The Independent reports on a study performed in two Russian hospitals, in which BOTOX® was administered to individuals undergoing heart bypass surgery. The findings indicate that a month after surgery, adults who had received the BOTOX® experienced a much lower rate of atrial fibrillation, which bodes well for the future of cardiology care.*
BOTOX® Used as Migraine Treatment
In addition to being an injectable cosmetic treatment, BOTOX® can also be used for migraine headaches.* Jenna Mullins, long-time migraine sufferer, offers a first-hand account of using BOTOX® to tame her migraines. Mullins shares that after trying a range of unsuccessful remedies, from massage therapy to medical marijuana to migraine pills, her pain management specialist made a referral for a specialized BOTOX® treatment. The injection session took 5 minutes and involved 31 injections in 7 areas of the body, including the forehead, neck, back and shoulders. Mullins will undergo a second round of injections in 3 months time, and is hopeful that BOTOX® will provide relief from her migraines.
