Plastic surgery is on the rise, and it looks like that trend is being echoed across the rest of the nation as well. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has recently released their statistics for 2012, and it seems that more people than ever are taking steps toward improving their appearance.
At a Glance
The total number of cosmetic procedures increased by five percent from 2011 to 2012 in the United States. That’s over 14 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2012 alone. This number represents a 98 percent increase from a decade ago in 2000.
The top surgery performed in the United States in 2012, as in 2011, was breast augmentation. Women received 286,274 breast augmentation surgeries last year. Liposuction fell into the top five as well, and is the top procedure when looking at international statistics.
Facial procedures were the area that saw the most growth, however. BOTOX® injections went up eight percent from last year, with over 6 million patients treated. Injectable fillers came in second place at nearly 2 million patients, an increase of 5 percent from 2011.
Beyond the Numbers
Whether the improved techniques and affordability are making cosmetic procedure more attractive to a wider range of clientele, or cosmetic surgery in general is becoming more generally accepted, it’s hard to say what the primary reason is for the surge in popularity of plastic surgery in the Denver area. Regardless of the statistics, it’s certain that investing in yourself is something that will never go out of style.
