The phrase “tummy tuck” is a fairly cute name for what is actually a very involved surgical procedure. Even the word “tuck” implies that the surgery is a quick and simple process. This is not at all the case; abdominoplasty requires care and precision to achieve an excellent surgical result.*
At my practice in Denver, “tummy tucks” are one of my favorite procedures because they can have such a huge impact on a patient’s body shape.* They are not for everyone, however, and they are definitely not a simple surgery. Patients who are considering abdominoplasty should know that successful results are dependent on having a highly qualified and experienced surgeon perform their procedure.*
Tummy Tuck Results
Once abdominoplasty is performed, there is often very little leeway left in the remaining skin for additional procedures or adjustments. It is a serious cosmetic surgery procedure that may involves some risks, just like any other surgical procedure. Patients will need to plan carefully for their recovery and think about their long-term goals. For instance, having additional children or gaining considerable weight following abdominoplasty can seriously compromise the quality of the results achieved.
None of this is intended to scare you away from a procedure that can help you meet your cosmetic goals.* However, before moving forward it’s important to keep in mind that, despite the cute name, tummy tucks are a serious decision, requiring a serious and dedicated surgeon.
